AsBuilt was contracted to capture the as-is conditions of a dust collection system in a wood products manufacturing facility.
AsBuilt used 3D laser scanning and developed a 3D model to visualize the existing conditions. The 3D modeling was utilized as an accurate design background for routing and placement of new equipment
3D Modeling of As-Is Conditions – Prior to scanning and modeling, the facility had no accurate as-built drawings. The facility was decades old, and the past equipment changes were not documented.
Precise Duct Routing – The 3D data provided the necessary information to be used as design backgrounds. All the new duct work was routed in the 3D environment. Routing in 3D eliminated duct and equipment clash in the installation phase.
Installation Planning – The contractor was able to plan the installation in 3D which saved time and improved crew safety.
Ducting Calculations – Once the 3D duct routing was determined. The engineering team was able to easily calculate the transport velocities in the ducting system.
