AsBuilt was contracted to capture the as-is conditions of a dust collection system in a wood products manufacturing facility.
AsBuilt used 3D laser scanning and developed a 3D model to visualize the existing conditions. The 3D modeling was utilized as an accurate design background for placement of the following equipment and duct routing.
3D Modeling of As-Is Conditions – Prior to scanning and modeling, the facility had no accurate as built drawings. The facility was decades old, and the many changes had not been documented as they were made.
Precise Duct Routing – The 3D data provided the necessary information to be used as design backgrounds. All the new duct work was routed in the 3D environment, which eliminated clash during installation.
Installation Planning – The installing contractor was able to plan the installation in 3D which saved time and improved crew safety.
Duct Flow Calculations – Once the routing was complete in 3D. The engineering team was able to easily calculate the transport velocities in the ducting system.
