The facility was constructed over 30 years ago and has undergone many upgrades and changes. The drawings were not accurate, so the solution was to 3D laser scan the facility and model specific work areas and equipment.
Correct As Built Information – The cost and time needed for field verification would put the project over budget and schedule. The scanning was completed in 2 days and the modeling within 2 weeks.
Clash Avoided – Working in 3D allows for proper routing of duct work while avoiding conflicts with the existing environment. At times conflict is unavoidable, but it can be easily managed when it is known.
Faster and Cheaper – It is not possible to provide the as built data faster or cheaper than using 3D scanning and modeling.
Visualization and Collaboration – The engineering firm was able to share the concepts and designs with the facility owner in 3D. This workflow allows the owner to approve the design quickly and have a full understanding of the project.
