AsBuilt of a Wind Shelter (Freeze Protection) for Replacement

AsBuilt utilized 3D laser scanning and modeling to replace existing wind shelters at a power plant, ensuring new structures accommodated all existing penetrations and utilities without disrupting operations.

The Challenge:
AsBuilt was contracted to provide point cloud development and solid modeling for the replacement of existing wind shelters. The shelters, which were stick-built with plastic sheeting, required replacement with more permanent structures. The existing shelters had multiple penetrations and doors on all sides, along with roof penetrations. Capturing these features was crucial as the piping and conduit could not be modified to accommodate the new shelters.

The Solution:
AsBuilt used Laser Scan data to capture detailed information on the existing shelters and surrounding structures. The scan data was exported to our offices for post-processing, where it was checked for quality and prepared for modeling. The resulting 3D models were verified against the point cloud data to ensure accuracy. These models were then used to design the new shelters, ensuring that the utilities and penetrations remained unmodified and operations continued without interruption.

Deliverables:

  • Point Cloud Raw Scan Data (in Recap file format)
  • Navisworks Model
  • 3D Modeling Design Engineering
  • Clash Detection
  • Owner Visualization, Review, and Approval in 3D
