AsBuilt of a Turbine Shell

When a mill's presses were scheduled to be replaced with no previous drawings, AsBuilt used 3D laser scanning to capture their as-is condition. Learn more!

The Challenge:

Three presses were scheduled to be replaced as a part of a large capital upgrade.  The mill did not have up to date drawings or 3D modeling.

The Solution:

3D laser scanning was used to capture the as-is condition and the scan data was used to develop a 3D model of the equipment.

Quick Facts:

3D Modeling of As-Is Conditions – Prior to scanning and modeling, the facility had no accurate as built drawings.

Above and Below Grade Visualization – Scanning was performed at grade, from elevated locations, and below grade to capture the pit areas.  This information enabled the visualization of multiple elevations at once.

Installation Planning – The installing contractor was able to plan the installation in 3D which saved time and improved crew safety.

New Equipment Overlays – The new equipment models were placed in the point cloud to determine exact placement and visual clash checking

Deliverables:

  • Point Cloud
  • Navisworks Model
